A number of U.S. Congressmen expressed their support to Kyrgyzstan in its efforts to lift U.S. visa restrictions for Kyrgyz citizens

On February 23-28, 2020, a Kyrgyz Republic delegation consisting of the members of Jogorku Kenesh Mr. Mombekov, Mr. Ergeshov and Mr. Mamataliev are visiting Washington, DC, at the invitation of The House Democracy Partnership (HDP).

On February 27 in Washington, as part of the program of the visit, group meetings of members of the Jogorku Kenesh were held with a number of members of the U.S. Congress, including Norma Torres (Dem.), Adrian Smith (Rep.), Robin Kelly (Dem.), Carol Miller (Rep.), Peter Welch (Dem.), Ted Lieu (Democrat), Steve Womack (Republican), Dina Titus (Democrat), Darin LaHood (Republican).

During the meetings the Kyrgyz delegation once again raised the issue of Kyrgyzstan's inclusion on January 31 this year to the extended list of countries subject to immigration restrictions, according to the U.S. Presidential Proclamation. Parliamentarians of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed concern on this issue, especially taking into account the important role of Kyrgyzstan in the field of democratic development and parliamentarism, and requested assistance in the early removal of our country from this list, including by raising this issue at various sessions of the committees of the U.S. House of Representatives.

A number of Democrat Congressmen expressed their readiness to assist in communicating to the U.S. Administration and the U.S. public the need to lift immigration bans on entry to the United States as soon as possible.

During a second meeting with the Chairman of the House Democracy Partnership Congressman David Price, members of the Jogorku Kenesh expressed their gratitude to the Congressman for his support, when he called, - during a subcommittee session in the U.S. Congress on February 26, 2020, - Kyrgyzstan the only parliamentary democracy in Central Asia and urged the U.S. Administration to work constructively with countries that have been subject to visa restrictions.

Congressman Price assured that his position on this issue remains unchanged and he will continue to push for the removal of immigration restrictions by the United States.
