On 2 July 2020, the Security Council high-level Open Debates on the theme “Pandemics and Security” was held. Open Debates held in the format of videoconference was attended by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer, AU Commissioner for Social Affairs Amira Elfadil Mohammed, as well as UN member states representatives, including the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York M. Moldoisaeva.

In her speech, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasized the need to unite the efforts of the international community in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the importance of prevention of armed conflict in the world.

In particular, it was noted that the current situation with COVID-19 requires the immediate unification of efforts and the adoption of decisive actions by whole international community and the central role of the United Nations and its Security Council. It was noted that the Kyrgyz Republic supports the Call of the UN Secretary General A. Guterres towards global ceasefire and enhanced international cooperation to successfully counter the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic noted the need to strengthen development cooperation and to increase access to concessional finance, especially in the context of the global pandemic. She called upon all developed countries and international financial institutions to provide support measures to ease the debt burden of developing countries and assist them with the response and recovery from to the pandemic.

In addition, M. Moldoisaeva also noted the particular importance of enhancing international cooperation to ensure global access to medicines, vaccines and medical equipment to face COVID-19.
