The first political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Kingdom on the issues of bilateral cooperation

On June 20, 2022 the first Kyrgyz-British political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Kingdom on the issues of bilateral cooperation were held in Bishkek.

The Kyrgyz delegation was headed by the Director of the Third Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Bekbolotov. The head of the British delegation was the Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the Foreign&Commonwealth Office (FCO) Martin Harris.

The parties noted that on 12th of June, 2022 the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Kingdom marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In this regard, the parties discussed the current bilateral cooperation and possible directions for its further development. The inter-parliamentary cooperation and interaction between the Parliamentary Groups of cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic and Great Britain were also discussed.

In the field of trade and economic cooperation, the parties discussed the organization of the Kyrgyz-British Investment forum in London this year, the implementation by the British side of projects to support small and medium-sized businesses in Kyrgyzstan, to train entrepreneurs of the Kyrgyz Republic in such areas as product quality, certification, opportunities to promote products to new markets. In addition, agriculture, textile industry, and tourism were identified as promising areas of bilateral economic cooperation.

During the consultations, the parties discussed the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, especially in the field of education. The parties also discussed issues of employment of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in the United Kingdom under the existing Agreement between the Center for employment of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic abroad under the Ministry of labour, social welfare and migration of the Kyrgyz Republic and the British company «Agri-HR». The Kyrgyz side expressed a request to the British side to consider the possibility of opening a United Kingdom Visa Application Center in Bishkek in order to facilitate the issue of obtaining a British visa by citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The parties also paid attention to the issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The parties exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda.
