On May 9, 2019, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UK took part in the annual wreath-laying ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial in London on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Allied victory over fascism.

The Soviet War Memorial dedicated to the memory of the 27 million died in all fifteen republics of the former USSR, was opened on May 9, 1999 in a park near the Imperial War Museum. The monument is a three meter bronze statue of a woman who bent her head. Above the monument is a bell, and there is a granite slab with a memorial inscription at its foot.

At the ceremony, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UK Gulnara Iskakova and employees of the Embassy laid a wreath at the Soviet War Memorial, along with representatives of the eembassies of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. During the ceremony, the participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Second World War.

The event, organized by the Soviet Memorial Trust Fund in collaboration with the administration of the Borough of Southwark, also included representatives of local authorities, public and veteran organizations.

After the official ceremony veterans and guests were invited to a reception “Toast for Victory”, organized by the diplomatic corps, where everybody could taste national dishes and beverages.
