On March 5, 2021, at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva D.Mukashev met with the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Mr.Grandi.

During the meeting, the Permanent Representative D.Mukashev emphasized the high level of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UNHCR and expressed his gratitude to Mr.Grandi for the comprehensive assistance to Kyrgyzstan, including in the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parties discussed the outstanding issues of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UNHCR; project activities of the organization in the country, as well as promising areas of interaction between Kyrgyzstan and the UNHCR in the field of protecting the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and further preventing statelessness.

Stressing the achievements of Kyrgyzstan in the field of reducing statelessness and taking into account the importance and relevance of this issue for the world community, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic D.Mukashev informed the Head of the UNHCR about the intention of the Kyrgyz side to organize the International Conference on the reduction of statelessness in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2021 inviting the UNHCR to cooperate in the implementation of this idea.

D.Mukashev also expressed the interest of the Kyrgyz side in organizing the visit of the High Commissioner Mr.Grandi to the Kyrgyz Republic in the near future.

In turn, the High Commissioner Mr.Grandi expressed his satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the UNHCR and Kyrgyzstan, underlined the organization's readiness to continue to provide comprehensive technical, expert and humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan within its mandate, as well assuring that he would carefully consider the specific proposals of the Kyrgyz side raised by the Permanent representative D.Mukasev to deepen bilateral partnership between both sides.
