In 1997, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic was opened in Kuala Lumpur. From 1995 to 2003 bilateral relations developed actively, which resulted in several high-level visits of officials of both sides, including:

• in 1995 – Official visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia
• in 1996 and 1997 – Official visit and a working visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Kyrgyz Republic;
• in 2000 – Official visit of the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia;
• in 2002 – The visit of the Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia;
• in 2002 – The working visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia;
• in 2003 – The visit of the delegation from Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic to participate in the OIC Summit.

• in 2009 – The visit of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Kyrgyz Republic;
• April 2009 – The official visit of the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament to the Kyrgyz Republic;
• April 2011 – The visit of the Chairman of the Kyrgyz Audit Chamber;
• July 2011 – The official visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic;
• September 2012 – The working visit of the Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad;
• January 2013 – The working visit of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic;
• February 2013 – The visit of the Members of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic;
• August 2013 – The visit of the Kyrgyz Parliament and state authority representatives;
• January 2014 – The visit of the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic;
• February 17, 2014 – The working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Erlan Abdyldayev to Malaysia;
• August 6-8, 2014 – The official visit of the President of Putrajaya Corporation Aseh Bin Haji Che Mat to Bishkek;
• September 8-10, 2014 – The official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Anifah Aman to Kyrgyz Republic;
• 30 October – 4 November 2014 – The visit of the delegation from Bishkek city administration and Bishkek City Council led by First Vice-Mayor Z.Malabekov to Malaysia;

- May 28, 2015 - the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic E.Abdyldaev with the Malaysian Foreign Minister A.Aman within the framework of the 42nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Kuwait;

- June 11-12, 2015, the Embassy organized a visit of journalists of the leading media of Kyrgyzstan to Malaysia, with the aim of exchanging and studying the experience of Malaysia in various fields, including in the field of tourism;

- July 24-29, 2015, a delegation of Malaysian media representatives visited Bishkek with the invitation of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia;

- July 29, 2015 President of Kyrgyzstan H.E. Mr. Almazbek Atambaev gave an interview to the representatives of the leading media of Malaysia;

- On December 3, 2015, within the framework of the UNDP project on studying the experience of Malaysia in the field of judicial reform, was organized a meeting of the Kyrgyz delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Ms. B. Esengulova with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Mr. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Hazhi Mulia;

- March 6-7, 2016, Ambassador Kylychbek Sultanov took part in the OIC Summit on the problems of Palestine and Al-Quds;

- July 20-26, 2016, the Embassy organized a cultural and educational event in the Kyrgyz Republic for pupils of the Kyrgyz Republic and Malaysia with the participation of Malaysian teachers of English language;

- On February 27-28, 2018, the Embassy organized a meeting of the business delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic led by the Member of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Nurbavev with the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises of Malaysia and with the leadership of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia;

- On April 10, 2018, Embassy organized a meeting of the Malaysian delegation consisting of nine leading tourism companies of Malaysia with the Department of Tourism in Bishkek;

- On May 25, 2018, the Embassy organized a presentation at MATRADE on informing the Management of the Supervising Department on investment projects of the Kyrgyz Republic;

Currently, the issue of conducting the First meeting of bilateral consultations (Bilateral Consultation Meeting) in the fourth quarter of 2018 in the Kyrgyz Republic is under consideration. The parties agreed on the agenda and content of the event.

At present, work has begun to revive the Kyrgyz-Malaysian relations and bring them to a qualitatively new level.
