Legalization of documents

Certification of the documents for use in the Kyrgyz Republic

If you wish to certify the authenticity of a document issued, please be advised of the following:

Effective the date of August 1, 2011, the Kyrgyz Republic joined the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (1961 Hague Convention). As of this date, with the certification by the Hague Convention Apostille, U. S. documents are entitled to recognition in the Kyrgyz Republic and no legalization by the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic is required.

For certification of a document with the Apostille, the following steps are necessary:

  1. After the document has been executed before a public notary, the clerk of the county court for the county in which the notary is licensed issues a “notarial certificate”. This certificate states that the notary was licensed on the date the act was performed.
  2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the county certifies the document with the Apostille. The document is then ready to be used in the Kyrgyz Republic.

For legalization of the documents, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic requires the following documents:

  1. A statement requesting that the document be legalized (from individuals) or a cover letter (from legal entities).
  2. The original documents have been legalized.
  3. A photocopy of the document.
  4. A photocopy of the applicant’s passport photo page (for individuals).
  5. A photocopy of the passport page bearing the registration stamp (for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic).
  6. Consular fees: for individuals who are citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic - USD5for individuals - citizens of a foreign state and stateless persons – USD50, for legal entities – USD100, for individuals where citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and a foreign state are jointly indicated - USD20.

Important information:

  • The Embassy does not legalize the following documents: passport, military documents, employment records, driving licenses, technical certificates of registration of vehicles, labor union cards, documents belonging to the estates and creeds
  • Legalization processing time: regular processing time – 5 business days, urgent processing time – 3 business days (in this case the consular fee will double the original fee price).
